From Resistance to Flow

Resistance and flow are the primary waves on which we ride through our life.

When a new baby is born, they can fall into such a deep sleep that movements and sounds outside of them do not disturb them. The world they are sleeping in can be full of disruptive distractions but they are not pulled out of their peaceful grounded space. They easily inhabit the space of knowing, of flow because it is their natural state.

Flow is also your natural state. Resistance is available to you as well but as a tool to help you navigate when you have fallen out of alignment or forgotten your sense of wholeness. When we attempt to resolve resistance by trying to control the world outside of ourselves or by trying to be something other than who we are, we increase our focus on the resistance and end up creating more resistance.

Young children love to spend time looking at themselves in the mirror and they look with love. The don’t care about the condition of their face, they simply want to see themselves in the form of the body they have taken and they love that form because they intuitively understand it is an expression of their spirit, an expression of love.

As adults we tend to see ourselves through the lens of control. We look in the mirror for the flaws and then try to fix them or hide them. The lens of control is bred from resistance. You can think of resistance like the fuel gauge in your automobile, telling you when you are running low on love.

When you are feeling a lot of resistance in your life, it’s a sign to slow down and take the first exit off the mental highway you are on, pull over and spend some time being. The “Be” exit can be anything that brings you joy, delight, lightness. It might be a bath, reading a book, taking a walk, listening to music, calling a friend or even just sitting for a few minutes and tuning into your breath, acknowledging the sensations in your body and finding that space of gratitude for who you are.

You are loved. You belong. You matter.
